Typical Areas Evaluated

  • Current IT/Security
We evaluate your current IT systems and security to determine what needs to be upgraded, secured, and what should be left as is or retired. We evaluate the overall "heath" of the IT systems.
  • Workplace Collaboration
We evaluate the methods, systems, and tools used to work with your customers, vendors, contractors, other organizations and employees. We determine how effective these practices are and if alternative methods, tools, and practices may improve your business efficiency and overall operation. We consider collaboration software, and virtual meeting tools and technologies including smartboards, video/audioconferencing, and smart meeting spaces.
  • Hardware and Software Asset Management and License Compliance
We investigate the methods being used to manage your hardware and software assets. We evaluate your licensing costs and strategies and determine if there are ways to save money on licensing costs and reduce your vulnerability to software licensing issues/ violations, and legal issues. We consider and present your legal risk with respect to software licensing violations. We investigate procurement strategies such as floating vs. fixed licenses, license bundles, and corporate licenses to determine where savings can be achieved.
  • Custom Software Applications
We determine what, if any, custom (non-commercial) applications are in use and how well integrated these applications are with other systems. We determine ways to improve integration and interaction to make these applications more effective and efficient. We also consider if a combined custom/commercial software approach might be benefical to better address business needs.
  • Mobile Technology Integration and Management
We assess your organizations use of mobile technology including cell phones, cell phone service plans, laptops, and PDAs to determine if you are getting maximum value from your investments in this area. We determine how well the needs of mobile and "virtual workers" are being served.
  • Alternate IT
We assess your organizations use of alternate IT such as open source, low-cost desktop/blade computers, and alternate operating systems (Vista, Linux, 64 Bit XP, etc) to determine usage and how these technologies might benefit the business by reducing costs, maintenance and overhead.
  • Website Development/Maintenance
We review the state of internal and external company websites (intranets and extranets). We consider how metrics are obtained and presented and where Dashboard-like metrics and systems might be beneficial. We determine how sites are updated, along with the accuracy, currency, and relevancy of content. We evaluate search optimization of performance in this area (How easily can others locate your site online via a search?)
  • New and Current Employee IT Training
We evaluate how new and current employees receive their IT orientation and training. We consider the current practices used for supporting newly hired workers, including hardware and software. We review how existing training presentation and self-study methods are organized and accomplished.
  • Helpdesk
We review the procedures used for tracking user requests and problems and propose methods to best handle user support, both on and off-site.
  • Document Management
We review and evaluate current methods/tools used for document management, storage, and backup. We evaluate current administrative/operating procedures and consider alternative methods for documentation such as WIKIs and other web-based techniques and document management solutions.
